NITRO DRAG DAY 2004
Race Procedures
Auto:
Street Legal:
- Street Legal classes are divided in Original and Upgraded Street Legal, and Competition Street Legal (to be raced with National UE or FIA racing licence).
- Street Legal will race bracket and index:
Bracket: 1 class for slower vehicles
Index: 3 classes
Classes:
A1 between 12.00 and 12.99 sec. INDEX
A2 between 13.00 and 13.99 INDEX
A3 between 14.00 and 14.99 INDEX
A4 slower than 14.99 BRACKET
We would like to remind that the main difference between bracket and index classes is that in bracket you declare your dial in (your target Elapsed Time) at 1/100 of a second, in index classes your dial in will be the class index.
Bracket: as an example, you declare 15.85, if your E.T. will be lower even by just 1/1000 sec. you break-out
Index: in A1, A2 and A3 classes, if your E.T. is lower than your class index ( 12 – 13 – 14), you break out.
Dial In declaration:
You must declare your Dial-In within the race scheduled time, racers who will desire to modify their dial in must go to the Race Direction and sign a specific form before their class is called to the gates.
Super Classes:
There are three Super Classes, all of these are index, according to international rules:
Super Street: 10.90
Super Gas: 9.90
Super Comp: 8.90
Qualifying criteria is based on reaction time
The race will be a ¼ mile one but, for Super Comp class, should all the racers decide to race on a 1/8 mile distance, their decision will be approved by the organizers. In case such a decision should be taken by the racers, they all will have to subscribe a special form and give it to the Race Director at least 10 minutes before the 1 st. qualifying run.
Starting Device:
The starting device is the F.I.A. christmas tree, the lamps will light up according to the following sequence: for bracket handicapped classes, the three amber lights will light up at 0.5 sec, then after other 0.5 seconds the green bulb will light up; the reaction time displaied on the scoreboards and printed on the time slip printer, starts from the last amber light, so the minimum reaction time is 0.5 seconds: if your reaction time is less than 0.5 you foul, unless your opponent fouls worst.
For all index classes, included public race A1 - A2 - A3 , the three amber bulbs will light up all at once, and after 0.4 seconds the green will light up: the reaction time calculation will start from the amber bulbs, so the minimum reaction time will be 0.4 seconds.
WARNING: for no other than safety reasons, any racer or crew component is allowed to go to the timing station and talk with timing personnel: this rule is necessary to avoid distraction of the timing personnel who might, when distracted, make mistakes damaging other competitors thus interfering in the race. Every question must be placed to the Race Director, who will take all the necessary decisions.
ENTERING AND EXITING THE TRACK:
At least 10 minutes before the scheduled time, racers must show up at gates (helmet is mandatory in all racing classes), further communications will be done through pits loudspeakers, .
After each run, racers will have to stop at the end of the braking area (at a side of the track), and wait for the track officer command to go back to the pits.
WARNING: Coming back to pits, the maximum allowed speed is 60 km/h, in case of overspeed the Race Director might apply penalties.
SCHEDULE VARIATIONS:
In case of events that would force the organizers to modify the race schedule, announcements will be given through the pits loudspeakers, so do not leave the pit or track area even if you are not scheduled to race in a short time.
SANCTIONS AND PENALTIES:
Money penalties will be applied to those racers who will affect the race schedule in any way:
Disturbing the timing personnel in the timing station Euro. 100.00
Briefing delay Euro. 50.00
Dial-In declaration delay Euro. 50.00
Delay arriving the track gates : exclusion from the race.
Overspeed entering the pits: sanction up to Euro. 250.00 and eventually disqualify when the Race Director would judge overspeeding as a risk for public or track officers.
USEFUL TIPS
Time Trials:
- During time trials, it is best trying to test the maximum performance, in order to understand your limit and decide the right dial in to declare or the right index class to entry.
- A red light during time trials does not mean any penalty, unless you leave before the Starter pushes the start button (before the amber bulbs lights up): leaving the starting line before the Starter’s authorization might be dangerous, and the Race Directors might even decide to disqualify the racer.
- Taking part to time trials is not mandatory, but street legal racers might then be in trouble to declare the right dial in or decide the racing class to subscribe.
Qualifying:
At least one valid qualifying run is mandatory.
Qualify criteria change according to different classes:
- Bracket racing best qualify is closest to dial in,
- Index classes use Reaction Time as qualifying criteria,
